BISHOPSTOWE OPEN GARDENS

OPEN GARDENS
Only open 7/8 October
Rick and Fem Hackland, Bishopstowe
by Des

A 15 minute drive from Pietermaritzburg, this open garden is primarily an aloe garden, and forms part of the Aloe Festival in July. Des and Denise (on her first photograph outing) visited on Saturday. Rain was promised at 11, so we arrived early (8.30) and were greeted by a very enthusiastic couple who were still having their breakfast!

Cost: R50 (donation to Hospice)

Toliet: Yes

People: Lovely couple run this farm – they love to chat, so if you want a tour you are in for a treat. Or they will let you wander around no problem.

Still lots of photograph even though aloes not in flower, take your macro lens along. Roses, azaleas, clivias, irises. Birds quite a few – weavers, bulbuls, little mossies and other LBJs, and Des even spotted a crested barbet (well, she thinks she did!)

Denise spent a good amount of time trying to get her first bee image! Practice makes perfect…
